Hello! Today in class, me and my group were assigned to create a storyboard that will allow us to draft and visualize what our movie opener could potentially look like. This also helps us as a group understand what elements are going to be involved into the making. I've presented a draft of ideas of what each scene should include and look like. My group members, Veronica and Niliem, presented thoroughly on how each scene should play out while Kamryn contributed to the ideas of what transitions we should use.
Scene 1: This scene starts with Dr. Elena and her ill husband, Daniel, laying unconscious on a hospital bed. She received the news that her husband is going to die soon if he doesn't get a heart transplant soon. Unless a miracle happened, he was destined to die. In that moment, she is having a breakdown.
In the process, a two-shot is being used to display the intense, heart-aching situation that goes on between them. It creates a sorrowful mood for the audience. Then non-diegetic sounds like Elena's weeping, faint breathing of the husband, and sounds of the monitors are played in that scene. A straight cut is then used to transition to the next scene.
Scene 2: In this scene, Dr. Elena is seen back at work the next day after the news, acting as if nothing happened. She is evaluating one of her patients, conversing with them about their results. She gets the idea that she could use this person as a potential "donor."
In the process, there's dialogue used between Dr. Elena and the patient. An over-the-shoulder shot is used on the patient, being able to see what the patient sees from their perspective. A reverse-shot is then used to get both perspectives of the characters talking to each other.
Scene 3: This scene displays Dr. Elena in her office, calling her patient to inform her to come at a recommended private clinic to get another evaluation. She lies about her results, claiming that there's something wrong with her.
In the process, a close-up shot is used to reveal the doctor's emotions and true intentions while she's on the call. Non-diegetic sounds like the dialogue between the doctor and patient is used. Diegetic sounds like the phone ringing is also used. Then a fade-out is then used to transition to the next scene.
Scene 4: This scene shows the patient entering the "private clinic" that Dr. Elena told her to go to. The patient gets greeted by the "receptionist" and is told to sign in. Then the patient goes to Dr. Elena's office.
In the process. a wide shot is used to reveal the new environment that the patient is in. It also reveals the interaction between the receptionist and the patient. A dialogue is used between them while sounds of the tv are playing in the back. A match cut is then used to transition from the patient opening the door to the next scene, her entering the office.
Scene 5: This scene shows the patient meeting up with the doctor at the office. The doctor converses with her, telling the patient that surgery is necessary due to "complications" shown on her results
In the process, a mid-shot is used to reveal the character's body language and emotions. Diegetic sounds like paper flipping is heard when Dr. Elena goes through her diagnosis and results to the patient. Then a J-cut is used to show patient closely as Dr. Elena gets up to walk to her. Her footsteps could be heard in the background, when it transitions to the next scene of Dr. Elena walking behind her.
Scene 6: This scene involves Dr. Elena going up behind the patient and covering the patient's mouth with a cloth, soaked in sedatives. The patient is getting dragged by her out of the office. Then the door closes from behind.
In the process, a tracking shot is used to show the doctor dragging the patient out the door. A Dutch angle is used to show the disoriented expression of the patient. Incidental sounds are used to make the scene more suspenseful. Then a straight cut is used as soon as the door closes, transitioning to the title page.
Scene 7 (Title Page): This scene displays the title of the movie, along with text such as credits and date of release. Graphics like blood could be used.
