Final Storyboard

Hello! Today, I'll be discussing about my group's final storyboard and the initial changes we made throughout the process.

Scene 1: This scene involves Dr. Elena in the hospital room, where her dying husband is currently residing at. She is seen weeping as she's informed about the immediate organ transplant he needs in order to survive.

For this scene, we didn't make any new changes expect for transitions. Instead of a straight cut, we sued a dissolve transition to proceed to the next scene. In the process, we used a two-shot to capture the sad and tense mood of the dire situation between Dr. Elena and her husband, Daniel. We then used diegetic sounds like crying, and the EKG monitor beeps. We were initially going to also include the faint breathing of Daniel, but we didn't want to overlap the scene with many sounds. Then we kept our idea of using high-key lighting for mostly all of the frames because the setting takes place at a hospital / clinic.

Scene 2: This scene involves Dr. Elena calling one of her patients, Claire, and lying about there being an issue regarding her recent lab results.

This scene was supposed to be when Dr. Elena gets back to work after the hospital, normally examining her patients. Due to time and a change to the story, we got rid if it and skipped to her calling Claire. We did a over the shoulder shot as intended, included dialogue between Claire, and added diegetic sounds like the phone ringing. We were supposed to include a close-up shot of Elena's face making some sort of sinister expression, but the angle of the camera looked awkward and funny, so we scratched that clip.

Scene 3: This scene Claire getting called up by the receptionist to sign in for her appointment.

For this scene, there isn't much change to the initial storyboard, except we didn't include the match-cut as we intended to do. We didn't have the chance to do the match-cut of Claire entering the office because of time and forgot about it as we were filming. This scene was also supposed to be in the 4th frame, but because we didn't include a certain scene that was near the beginning, this scene is shown earlier.

Scene 4: This scene involves Dr. Elena gagging Claire from behind after the examination. This led Claire to be unconscious, in which then Dr. Elena drags her body to another room.

This scene technically was supposed to be the last scene that ended the opener, but because our group had other ideas to include into the ending of the opener, it got pushed back. We have an over the shoulder shot as Dr. Elena is discussing the surgery to Claire. We were originally supposed to do a J-Cut, but we didn't get to because of time.

Scene 5: This scene involves Claire laying on a bed after being knocked unconscious.

For this scene, we didn't originally have this on the initial storyboard. We added this because we needed more shots to fill the opener, and it created more suspense to the opener. This also allows us to show Claire's vulnerability as she can't do anything after being knocked unconscious. We used a high-key lighting since it's a clinic, which usually involves high-key lighting. Since Dr. Elena is about to surgery on Claire, we made the actor wear things such as scrubs, a mask, gloves, and something that looked like a surgical gown to fit the part of a typical surgeon.

Scene 6: The opener ends off with a scene of a POV view of Dr. Elena as she is preparing to do heart surgery on Claire.

For this scene, we were supposed to end off with just Dr. Elena dragging Claire out of the door, and the door closes, which transitions straight to the title / credits. Because of the lack of clips we had and didn't follow the initial storyboard, we had to try to film other things to extend the film, so we shot the POV shot of Dr. Elena prepping for surgery. I did like this more rather than ending it off with just the door closing, but at the same time, it kind of gives off a bit more of what's going to happen, leaving less anticipation for the audience.

Everything overall, our movie opener gives off more suspense, rather than horror as we initially intended it to be because we didn't use blood and the clips weren't drastically scary.
